Thanks to Jenny’s passion for gemstones, jewellery, and watches, Lucerne is and always will be a very special place for us. Beyond its breathtaking nature, mountains, lake and wonderful nearby spas, Gübelin holds a special meaning for Jenny. The Gübelin headquarters and the Gübelin Academy are closely connected to her journey as a collector and student. Whenever she returns to attend courses or workshops, new opportunities arise to discover and test different hotels. The Gübelin Academy is located right above Schwanenplatz, inside the Gübelin Gem Museum, which opened in summer 2023.
The Mandarin Oriental Palace is just a few minutes’ walk from Lucerne’s city centre. The spacious, bright, and warm room Jenny stayed in was equipped with everything a guest could possibly need. There was no need to ask housekeeping for any extras, even the hair dryer was fully equipped. Mandarin Oriental once again met all our expectations.
In the evening, a walk along the lakeside is a must. You can watch locals playing Boule until the sun sets, enjoy a glace or grab a sandwich or sweet treat from a nearby patisserie. And if you want to wake up to mountain and lake views, we highly recommend choosing a room with a lake view. It is incredibly soothing to wake up to soft sunlight reflecting on the water and to watch the sunset while feeling cosy in bed. Even the breakfast room offers beautiful lake views.
During the two-day workshop, Jenny took several photomicrographs of Gübelin gemstones. If you look closely at the images below, you may discover surprising inner worlds resembling UFOs, dinosaurs, mammoths, and delicate silk-like inclusions hidden inside the stones. Our teacher was Jonathan Muyal, internationally recognised for his stunning work in gemstone photomicrography.
