Kyoto: Six Senses

Month & Year: Dec 24 - Jan 25
Room / Suite: Premier Room

During our first visit to Kyoto, we stayed at Six Senses Kyoto and instantly fell in love. It is a hotel that feels beautifully modern while remaining deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Every detail, from the rooms and shared spaces to the entrance, lobby, spa, breakfast, and especially the service, has its own place and sense of order, creating an atmosphere that is incredibly soothing and calming.

The beauty lies in its simplicity, harmony, and the genuine warmth of the staff. Evening turndown service was particularly memorable, with thoughtful surprises centered on health, longevity, sleep, and culture, delicate snacks, tea, and even sleepy banana tea to support rest. It truly felt like a wellness retreat. We loved it so much that on some days we chose to spend time exploring and relaxing within the hotel itself rather than venturing out into Kyoto.

Breakfast offered hearty yet healthy options, including a homemade shrub, and the location was perfect for walking to nearby shrines and temples. A stay that left a lasting impression and set the tone for our love of Kyoto.

We’re returning to Kyoto in April 2026 (yes, during hanami season - japanese cherry blossom season) and will be sharing a series of journey posts dedicated solely to Central Japan. Stay tuned as we review one newly opened hotel and another set to open shortly before April 2026, as well as a selection of beautifully hidden Japanese guest houses.
